![]() ![]() Clyde had a Post Office from May 2, 1872, to February 22, 1968. While there are no incorporated villages in the township, there are six unincorporated communities: In 2006, thanks in large part to the efforts of the Highland Equestrian Conservancy, Highland Township received official recognition by the state government as Michigan's first designated equestrian community. In 2003, in an effort to retain its rural character, as well as preserve its extensive equestrian heritage, Highland declared itself an "equestrian community" and began active support and encouragement of the equestrian presence and related development in the township. A major factor in the development of Highland was the railroad, which allowed lumber to be transported cheaply, and allowed products from the township's early factories to be exported easily. Highland Township was founded by pioneer families in 1835. Highland Township is a western suburb of Metro Detroit and is located about 18 miles (29.0 km) west of the city of Pontiac and about 45 miles (72.4 km) northwest of the city of Detroit. The population was 19,202 at the time of the 2010 census. Highland Township, officially the Charter Township of Highland, is a charter township of west Oakland County, Michigan. The celebration has grown yearly and will continue to positively benefit all of those who attend as well as the surrounding communities now and into the future.Highland Road ( M-59) east of Duck Lake Road, facing west The Friends of Highland Recreation Area (FOHRA), is a non-profit organization supporting the Highland State Recreation Area in Highland/White Lake, Michigan, and the historic Edsel Ford Haven Hill Estate structures within its boundaries. The Haven Hill Festival is an alcohol-free, family-oriented event. If you do not have this great State Park feature on your license plate, you will be asked to buy one. The Festival is provided to the public at no charge, and yet entry into the state park is now via the Recreation Passport on your license plate. Parking is at the Goose Meadow picnic shelter area, the 1st right turn on Haven Hill Road after you enter the park off of M-59 between Duck Lake and Bogie Lake roads. The food and beverages available for purchase in Goose Meadow will be a fund raiser for the efforts of the volunteer group Friends of Highland Recreation Area. The park can be entered on 5200 Highland Road, M-59 between Duck Lake and Bogey Lake roads.
